HOME believes that one of the most effective ways to promote fair housing is through strong partnerships with those who provide housing and housing related services. We work with landlords, real estate agents, lenders, insurance companies and others to help them comply with the fair housing laws - and in the process, get more business. We are proud to have the confidence and support of many members of the housing industry, and are always available to answer your questions or discuss ways in which we can work together. These are some of the services HOME provides to the industry:

  • Technical assistance and answers to questions about fair housing at no charge
  • Answers to questions that will help you resolve disputes with your tenants - also at no charge
  • Training that helps your renters understand how to be a good tenant through our Superior Tenant program
  • Financial literacy, budget and credit education to help create qualified renters and homebuyers
  • Work with borrowers in default, in cooperation with out lending partners, to help them bring their mortgage current
  • Training on different aspects of fair housing compliance, both through scheduled courses and designed specifically to meet your needs
  • Evaluation of policies and procedures for fair housing compliance
  • Assistance in designing an effective fair housing compliance program for your company
  • Financial literacy and mortgage management training for your employees

HOME's fair housing training is given by instructors who have been certified by the Virginia Real Estate Board and the Virginia Fair Housing Board.

Information and Support for Government Agencies

HOME works closely with local, state and federal agencies, the military and other governmental entities to expand housing opportunities for their constituents and to help them promote equal housing. Among the services HOME provides are:

  • Technical assistance and answers to questions about fair housing
  • Training for staff and grantees on various aspects of fair housing
  • Help in meeting federal fair housing planning requirements (preparation of assessments of the impediments to fair housing)
  • Research and policy guidance on various housing issues
  • Fair housing education, investigation and enforcement for their constituents
  • State of the market evaluations as a basis for policy decisions
  • Training on predatory lending issues
